We don't do secrets here (LAB DRAMA PART 5 )

 

I do not know what it is with these people and minding their own business. I noticed there’s nothing I did that didn’t get their attention. Why are you doing this and that, you have to do this! Do you have a boyfriend? Can we see pictures? Where is he from? How many are you at home? What do your parents do for a living? Did all your siblings go to university? The top of this nonsense was:

 how much do you get for your scholarship?

 Is this jealousy? Why all these questions when I do not even know you. Don't you know what privacy is? Anyone who knows me knows that I am the most private person you have ever met, but to meet these people who do not know how to mind their own business was a shock. I remember that day in the early days of my work in the lab. The holidays were coming up and I was planning to visit my friends, so this girl from my lab asked me about my holiday plans and I actually told her about my travel plans. I figured it was no big deal. It was the usual one-week national holiday. I really wanted to meet my friends, especially because there were not many foreign students at our school, so I felt a little lonely sometimes. Around this time, we are expected to go to our field station to collect soil samples and help with the harvest in the experimental fields. I do not know what it is about the girl from my office, but the next day I was shocked when everyone in my office asked me about my trip and who I was going to visit. But the most shocking question of all was whether I would go to the field or not. As a fast student, I had already booked a ticket, hahaha, and with that question, I got scared that I would have to cancel my trip to go to the field. Apart from that, one thing that struck me is when did this girl get the time to tell the whole village about my plans. I was dead ass mad. That's when I came to learn there were no secrets between you and your office colleagues. Even my PI's assistant knew about my travel plans. Oh dear, oh dear. To cut a long story short: That was the last time I opened my mouth to tell anyone in my office about my plans or to say anything about myself. I am sure you are also wondering if I went for fieldwork or the long-awaited holiday. Hahaha, I went to visit my friends for seven days, hahaha, but the next day, right after my trip, I was off to fieldwork. SMH!

What is it with people and "how much do you get paid for your scholarship?" honestly, I think this question is always the root of all lab dramas!! hehe on a serious note the "did all your siblings go to university?", huh?  I've read this one a dozen times, and I still don't know what I would have said.
