You call this boring? (Lab drama)
Welcome to the world of a graduate student in a plant lab, where every day is a new adventure and a source of laughter. Today, I wanted to share with you a glimpse into one of our typical days, complete with our lab's very own comedic relief, our beloved PI.
First things first, let's talk about his never-ending visits. As the leader of our lab, it's only natural for him to want to check in on our progress, but let me tell you, the frequency of his visits is next level since the beginning of the semester. Just as we were getting into the zone, he'd pop in to see how things were going, often with a witty comment or joke that had us all laughing. It's like having a science parent who's always checking up on you, but we love him for it (I guess).
Now, onto the main event, the science. As a rotation student, my primary focus is on RNA (ribonucleic acid) research. And let me tell you, extracting RNA from plants is no easy feat. It's a delicate process that requires precision and patience, and let's just say, I had my fair share of mishaps and unexpected results. But as the old saying goes, science is crazy, and sometimes those mishaps lead to valuable data.
In addition to my RNA work, I also had a rotation talk on the natural variation in plant leaves. This topic is near and dear to my heart and I was excited to share my findings with the lab. Let me tell you, the diversity of plant leaves is astounding, and the variations are endless. It's always a wild ride when science gets a little bit wild.
All in all, it was just another day in the lab, filled with laughter, science, and the unexpected. And that's what makes it all worth it. Being a STEMinist is never boring, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
xoxo
