Afro Polish?
Hey besties! Your favorite scientist is still celebrating her new degree so I won’t be sharing any lab drama this week. Instead, I am sharing this submission I got some days ago. Just thinking, should I add MSc to the name of this blog? Hahaha just kidding!

Dear Oluwatoyosi,
My Journey was a pretty long one, applied to several scholarship programs but i got none, I contacted my friends studying out of the country to ask how they did theirs, but I wasn’t still lucky to get one unfortunately but the good thing for me was the never giving up mindset and the encouragement I always get from my BSc thesis supervisor, never to give up and he was always more than willing to give good recommendations anytime.
On a faithful afternoon, My BSc thesis supervisor called me and asked if I was interested in going to Poland (I was like Sure, why not...anywhere other than Nigeria is okay for me), He sent me the link, I applied, got a partial scholarship covering tuition fees. Applied Visa and with no much stress, I got it too (I just believe when it is your time, you won’t really go through much stress).
I Left My country in October, Had a stop over in Amsterdam, the weather was pretty crazy for me as it was my first time out of Africa. Decided to stay few days to tour the city before heading to Poland. Damn! What a beautiful place. During my free time, I will still like to be there again.
Got to Poznan in Poland and tried to find my way to the school dorm, tried to settle in.
Coming to a place like Poland is nice but the main problem is the language barrier, Most of them don’t understand English, I have to use the translator all the time and that can be really stressful most times. I had problem using the Bus, Tram etc but the good thing with the polish people is they try to be patient with you sometimes to use translator so they can help you at the same time, they can be racist too. I have seen myself in the bus severally and no one will want to sit beside me because i am black, they will prefer standing than sitting next to me.
I am done with my first semester and my grades were not that bad but initially i had problem adjusting to the mode of teaching as I was not used to this kind of style. But with time, I got used to it. One other problem I had was with the food, I wasn’t used to all these foods, but now, I eat them like I am having a traditional African meal! In all, as an African man, i am adjusting pretty well as we tend to survive anywhere we find ourselves.
Regards,
Tosin.
Till next week with another juicy lab drama submission!
Xoxo
Your favorite scientist
